The Main Gallery: Post Cards of Ships
Early Vessels of Virginia History The first two post cards are unused, circa 1907, and produced by William Lamb & Co. of Norfolk. Card one is of the three ships that bought John Smith to Jamestown and lists their names, captains, and tonnage. Details are available by email request.







This card shows John Smith's river barge under sail being attacked by indians. The small print at the bottom paraphrases Smith's 'A Historie of Virginia' with an account of the battle.






Virginia's First Naval Battle: 1608
Gunboat Diplomacy This card carries us away from Virginia history. Captioned "First Torpedo Floatilla", it shows five vessels in a storm in the Mediterranean on their way to China in 1904. The bullseye is for Norfolk and Gilmerton,
