Canyon Mountain

The Trail: Great views of the extreme northwestern section of the Strawberry Mountains. Directions: From John Day, Drive south on Highway 395 to Canyon City. Turn onto Marysville Road for two miles to Road 52. Then turn right (south) onto Road 77. The trailhead is on the right side of the road.

The Trail: Trail following the crest of the Strawberry Mountains Directions:

This trail has 2 trailheads:

The Eastern Trailhead: From Prairie City, drive south on Road 62 for 18 miles before turning right(west) onto Forest Service Rd. 101. Drive for two miles on this road to the trailhead.

The Western Trailhead: From John Day, drive south on Highway 395 until reaching county Rd. 65 (a.k.a. Forest Service Rd. 16). Drive east on this road, turning north onto Rd. 1640. The trailhead is at the end of the road.

The Trail: Trail to Gearhart Mtn. Directions: Drive east on Route 140 for .5 miles past Bly and turn left(north) onto Campbell Road. Continue for another .5 miles north, and take a right on road 34. Follow it for 15 miles until it intersects road 34-012. Drive this road to it's end and the trailhead

N. Fork Malheur River

The Trail: Trail following the North Fork of the Malheur River. Directions: From Prairie City, drive south on County Rd. 62 (a.k.a. Forest Service Rd. 14) for eight miles. Turn left (east) onto Rd. 13 for 14 miles to the Guard Station, and turn right (south) onto Rd. 16. Follow this for three miles to Rd. 1675. Turn left (east) and follow it to the North Fork Campground and the trailhead.
