The Bren Ten Newsletter Archives
Subject: Bren Newsletter (99/SEPT/19)
From: Mccwnsmith@aol.com
Sure, I'm interested. Is this an electronic newsletter or paper? I
wouldn't
say that I was a Bren Ten aficinado since I only owned one, and for
only a
couple of years. But I thought the design was excellent. Very
smooth in
operation. I want another for a shooter someday. I know the
cheapo EAA
Witness would serve the purpose, but I can't bring myself to do it.
Anyway,
I just wanted to let everyone know of the info I got from this guy
(oh, how I
wish I had kept the name and number) in case there was
something to it. Not
only could someone get hurt, but think of a destroyed Bren Ten!!!!!!
I remembered another slide failure story after I sent that post. I
read an
article in (I think) a Gun Digest from 3 or 4 years ago that talked
about
using Ransom Rests. The writer recalled some slide fractures in
Bren Tens
when they first came out, so that was another reason he liked
using the
Ransom with new gun designs, to get a little more distance
between himself
and the gun- just in case. His fears could've been based on rumors
from
competitors in the firearm industry at the time of the Bren Ten's
introduction for all I know. It wasn't very substantiated, so I didn't
post
it.

Hi Barry,
It's a people-run e-mail list and I am in control...
so to speak ;) Sorry you missed the earlier editions but in the last
one I mentioned where I had visited the Marksman shop (I live
REAL close to it) and was shown a Bren 10 slide in 3 pieces. The
cause was found to be hot-loaded Norma ammo and not a
malfunction of materials or design of the Bren.
As to getting another Bren...Triton Cartridge is seriously
considering re-introducing the Bren 10 and Fernando Coelho of
Triton is a member of our list. So your comments WILL be heard
by the people that matter :)

P.S. To the rest of the group...the Newsletter will now follow the
dating format you see in the Subject line. This will more easily
allow people who save our pearls of wisdom to archive and find
them when they need them.

Hi Erv,
Thanks a ton for letting us put you on the list. I suspect your
sales are going to increase quite a bit since our members are
interested in Brens as well as the specialized weapons you
mention in your letter and it's not easy to find them. I think the
company you refer to is Triton Cartridge. As mentioned above,
Fernando Coelho is in our group and is the "guiding light" at Triton
as far as the Bren re-introduction is concerned. I hope he heard us
mention that we would like to see the ORIGINAL Bren 10 brought
back and not the modified Peregrine Falcon version.
But I guess in our position beggers can't be choosers :)
And you are correct...the original Brens would go up in value
with the re-introduction of production. We are trying to convince
Fernendo to offer matching serial numbers of the new Brens to
those that already own an original. We think that would make a
dandy collectors package. Also would like to see a holster deal
with Galco to offer a special version/discount on the "Miami
Classic" rig that Don Johnson wore in Miami Vice.
Multiple calibers are also something that the group has shown
interest in.
At any rate, we are glad to have you on board and look forward
to using you as a source of Brens and other special weapons in
the future.
