The Bren Ten Newsletter Archives
Subject: Bren Newsletter (99/OCT/13)
From: Rob
I am interested in buying a Bren Ten and I understand that you
may be able to help me out.
Thanks,
Rob
Hi Rob,
I'm including your letter in our Bren 10 Newsletter because
we have an excellent source for Bren 10 pistols in the form of ESF
Sales. Their e-mail address is:
esfsales@bellsouth.net
Ask for Erv. He's a great guy and he'll give you a fair price.
Mike
P.S. If you would be interested in receiving the Bren 10 Newsletter
let me know.

Michael,
Thanks for listing me in/on the Bren Association newsletter.
Can you tell me more of the organization such as it's mission
statement/purpose, is it an informal channel for information or
something
more formal like trying to preserve and even revive the Bren?
Is there enough interest out there with the Bren owners to
approach a
reputable magazine manufacturer to have a run of reproduction
magazines
made? I would like 2 more but the approximate $300.00 price tag is
a little
steep.
Thanks
BTW: I was lucky enough to purchase an unfired NIB Bren. Since
nothing I own
is purchased just to look at I have fired it but not very much. I have
shot
only my own hand loads; 155gr lswc @960 fps 300 ft lbs and the
Federal 180
gr hydroshock 1030 fps 425 ft lbs in it. My hand loads are a little
light
and some times the slide does not come back completely so I get
a miss feed.
The Bren also does not like the small truncated cone of the 155 gr
bullet. I
get a feed failure were the round is jammed at about a 60 deg angle
in the
mouth of the chamber. I don't have any issues with the Federal
ammo. As a
point of interest my EAA Witness in 10mm will shoot my hand
loads just fine.
I have a copy of Ayoob's article on the Bren and he mentioned the
inconsistency of the Norma ammo. I hope that was were the
broken pistol
issue rests.
Do you know if any one has tried to contact Dornaus or Dixon to
"interview"
them regarding the Bren? That would be neat.
With Colt apparently bowing out of the consumer handgun market
what do you
think the chances are for Triton (I think that is right) to bring the
Bren
back??
Jay
Hi Jay,
We are a VERY informal group of Bren admirers/owners
although we have had one "conference" where we took pictures of
Brens (and Glock 10mms). We are hoping that Triton Cartridge
goes through with it's plan to revive the Bren 10. I wouldn't worry
too much about Colt withdrawing from the marketplace. They've
been on a downslide for quite some time. Their quality control is
terrible and most of what they have is not popular anyway.
Bren mags...they can be obtained from Forrest, Inc for $110
each. They are REPRODUCTION mags and not originals but I think
they function just as well. I think if and when Triton cartridge goes
into production that price would drop considerably. The neat thing
is they are already 10 rounders so no worry (yet) from the Brady
Bunch.
I wouldn't know where to start looking for Dornaus and Dixon but I
bet they are pretty tight-lipped about the Bren fiasco they created.
We have heard that Jeff Cooper is pretty reluctant to dicsuss the
Bren 10 though. Wonder how he'd feel if it was re-introduced? ;)
