What is "Gunung Online"?

GUNUNG  (goo'noong) n:- Malaysian word for mountain

Therefore, when we refer to "Gunung Online" it refers to the internet community who has similar interest:- mountains in Malaysia. The main objective of this site is to provide information about mountains in Malaysia, while promoting Malaysia as an adventure-tourism spot for foreigner. Gunung Online is also the place where people of the same interest meet and interact.


Rainforest view one can expect on the way to the summit

The section Gunung Info (accessible by clicking on the button on the left) provide information about the more popular mountains in Malaysia. The information includes "How to get there?", difficulty and rating for each mountain, location and contacts. Section Location shows the exact location of each mountains graphically.

For people who have the slightest idea about mountains in Malaysia:-

The mountains here is not as high as Everest and K2, the highest being Gunung Kinabalu (4101 meters). Neither they are as alpine-like as Masherbrum or Kachenjunga. But this is where one of the world toughest mountain climbathon takes place every year and a popular venue for adventure seekers worldwide.

Generally, a backpacking trip to the summit will pass through equatorial rainforest and montane forest (for altitude above 1000 meters). Therefore it is essential for people to know these two kinds jungles before going out for an expedition. The forest in Malaysia is regarded as the world's oldest rainforest and much of the area is still unexplored. There is a section explaining these two types of forest in the Technical section.
