Civilingenjör (M.Sc. in civil engineering)
The engineering programs take four and a half year to complete. They include practical work during the summer and a thesis assignment. Advanced courses are offered in all areas of hydraulics, hydrology and sanitary engineering with strong emphasis on environmental issues.
Language : Swedish, English if sufficient demand.

* Doctorate

Licentiate of engineering degree after about two and a half years and Ph.D. degree after five to six years. These durations apply to doctoral students having a fellowship from Chalmers. They assist in the teaching. Otherwise, it takes two and four years, respectively, for overseas students supporting themselves or having a scholarship from their own country. Working language : English. Dissertations are usually submitted in English. In special cases other languages can be used.

* Accommodation

The International Office will offer accomodation
Student residence : 1600 SEK (180 ECU).
Other rooms : 1600 SEK or more.
Meals at university : 35 SEK (4 ECU).
Meals outside university : 45 SEK (5 ECU).

* Language Teaching

Swedish for foreigners at the end of August.

* Fees

There are no fees in Swedish universities, except for those to the student union.

Civilingenjör (M.Sc. in civil engineering).
The program takes 4 1/2 years to complete and is the equivalent of 180 credits. It includes a final thesis (20 credits) and extracurriculum practical training. Advanced courses are offered in hydrology, hydraulics and sanitary engineering. Postgraduate courses are available for students with sufficient background knowledge.
Teaching language : Swedish. English is used by thesis advisors and might be used in final year courses and postgraduate courses.

* Doctorate

Ph.D. degree requires nominally 4 years of study. Licentiate degree after 2 1/2 years is optional. Ph.D. includes both course work (appr. 60 credits) and thesis appr. 100 credits). Dissertations are usually submitted in English.

Normal accomodation is single room with private (or shared) bathroom and shared kitchen. The rent for 1996/97 will be 11 400 SEK (1270 ECU) per term.
Fall term : Aug 15 - Jan 13, spring term : Jan 16 - June 15.

* Language Teaching ( Swedish for foreign students )

Intensive 2 week courses for beginners are given before the start of each semester (i.e. approximately 15 Jan, 15 Aug).

* Fees

No tuition fee. Membership in the students union mandatory. ERASMUS students pay only for social activities, appr. 80 SEK per semester.

M.Sc. in Civil Engineering, in cooperation with Uppsala University (4 1/2 years of study).
M.Sc. in Biology, Soil Science and Technology (4 years of study).
All the M.Sc. programs include one semester thesis assignment.
Advanced courses are offered in Soil Science, Water and Environmental Management and Technology.
Language: Swedish. English is used occasionally in final year courses and post graduate courses. English is also the main language in textbooks.

* Doctorate

Licentiate degree after 2 years or PhD degree after 4 years of full-time study. Working language: English or Swedish. Dissertations are usually submitted and defended in English.

* Accommodation

Student rooms are offered at a price of 2000 (SEK) per month.

* Language Teaching

The University offers free courses in Swedish.

* Fees

There are no fees, except for those to the student union.
