    * SPES Project of TECHWARE

    the European industry of the Sector water environment.

    * What is SPES ?

    SPES [Latin : hope] is the acronym of "Student and young graduate Placements for training in European industry of the Sector of water environment".
    SPES is a long-term project of TECHWARE, sponsored by the Directorate General DG XXII, Education, Training and Youth of the Europen Commission under it's programmes SOCRATES / ERASMUS, LEONARD da VINCI and TEMPUS. Since 1990, SPES has offered more than 400 training grants for transnational placements between 3 and 12 months.
    TECHWARE has a decentralized structure with a Coordinating Bureau in Brussels and Regional Bureaux in Genova (I), Marlow (UK) and Antwerp (B). This decentralized structure allows an easier matching between students' requests for training placements and enterprises' proposals for training placements.

    * Grants

    Depending on the kind of programme funding, the SPES training grants offered by TECHWARE differ both in amount and training conditions.

    * European Voluntary Service for Young People

    The European Commision has launched an initiative called the European Voluntary Service for Young People.

    This initiative is open to young people in the 18-25 age range who are resident in one of the Member States of the European Union. It aims to offer them the opportunity to participate, for a six-to-twelve-month period, in a project which contributes to the welfare of the local community, at local level, in another Member State.

    The project will focus on non-profit-making activities in the social or environment fields, the renovation of rural or urban areas, the preservation of cultural heritage and environmental protection.

    The Commission is keen to encourage NGOs and local authorities to work together, both with regard to the sending and the hosting of volunteers.
