* Research and Technology: The Fourth Framework Programme (1994-98)
This brochure gives an intorduction to Community research policy and more specifically the fourth framework programme, which brings together all the research and technological development programmes supported by the European Community in the period 1994-98.
Written in a style accessible to the general public, it begins by explaining the need for a Community policy on research and technology in the current climate of competition and globalization. In light of the overall objective of creating an innovatory Europe, Community action should not only serve to boost the competitiveness of European industry, but also contribute to solving problems of crucial importance to the future of the people of Europe (environment, medicine, etc.).
The brochure describes the research areas covered by the fourth framework programme, which is a truly unique European research instrument. Specific examples of projects and successes as well as practical advice for the future participants and a list of contact points complete this introduction to Community research policy.
