* Background and the Aim of the Course

This Course in Helsinki, Finland, is one of a total of five European Training Courses coordinated by TECHWARE and approved by EC-DG XII (Standards, Measurements & Testing). Finland is known as a country of thousands of lakes. Actually, there are altogether some 190 000 lakes of ponds in Funland. Half of the European big lakes (>100km2) are in monitoring of lakes. The aim of this course is to disseminate knowledge, in a comprehensive way, concearning the monitoring and measurement aspects of lake ecosystems. Theoretical and practical items will be discussed.


* Topics to be Covered

The Course will concentrate on the monitoring and measurement aspects of lake ecosystems. The following items will be discussed:


* Target Groups

The target groups are expected to be authorities, managers, professionals and technicians working in offices and laboratories responsible for water quality affairs.

The abstracts of all presentation will be published in the series "Finnish Environment" and distributed to participants during the Course. Other Course material will also be available. The presentations will be published lated as a separate volume in a book series "European Training Courses; Water Quality Measurements".
Certificate of Attemdance will be delivered to all participants.

Language The official language of the Course will be English.

* Airport
The Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is located about 14km from the Helsinki City Centre. The airport bus leaves every 20 minutes. The bus will stop near the Hotel Hesperia and terminate at in the City Terminal near the Railway Station

* Hotel Information
The venue, the Finnish Environment Institute (FEI), is situated only 1 - 2 kilometers from the Centre of Helsinki. Guests are requested to make there own hotel reservation.

* Cancellation
Written cancellations must be received before 15th July 1997. No refunds wil be made for cancellations received after that date of for non-attendance, but copies of the Course material will be sent.
