Men of Warwick

Wulf Hammersmith (Dave Gayda)
Wulf was born in the Year of our Lord 1422, in the town of Ashford near
Ludlow. The youngest son of a prosperous hammersmith, he apprenticed to
his father and practiced the trade until May of 1455 during Warwick's march
upon St. Alban's at which time his father was called upon by his Baron
to serve with Warwick, but being of advanced years, he decided to honor
his livery and maintenance contract with the service of his youngest son,
Wulf, who was equipped with partial harness and sent to war.
Finding military service to his liking, (somewhat less strenuous than
hammering out rough steel plate on a daily basis) he stayed with Warwick's
army and returned with them to Calais, where over the next five years he
served as a professional soldier, gradually acquiring more armor and achieving
the title of Esquire.
July of 1460 found Wulf with the siege force around the Tower of London
(where he acquired the services of a washerwoman to see to his cooking
and mending) while Warwick marched on to Towchester, but by the winter
of 1461 he was back with Warwick's guard.
