I first started yoyoing in October 1998 and have been hooked on it since.
After going through numerous market stall yoyo's for £2-3, I bought a Black Mamba from Toys'R'Us. I used this for picture tricks only but when I got onto string, trapezeor looping tricks I wanted a non auto return yoyo. I got a Dominator and a Luminator from Debenhams but the Dominator didn't sleep enough and Luminator was not responsive. I then found "Yoyo's 4 Less" on the net and ordered a TigerShark and a Da Bomb. These yoyo's really are the business for under a tenner. The TigerShark is perfect for all the master tricks and a good looper. The Da Bomb doesn't sleep as long, nor is it a butterfly but it's a great looper with adjustable sleep/responsivness. These were great yoyo's that were affordable. I could of yoyoed professional and these would of been fine. But for Christmas I got a Henry's Viper from Oddballs(London) for £24. . It slept for ages and was made of rubber with a huge butterfly shape. The only other yoyo that stands up to the Viper for under £30 has to be the butterbee for £24 from Toys'R'Us. It's smooth, butterfly shape which is great for trapezes and sleeps for ages but the break pads wear out quickly making the response non existent. I then bought a ProYo 2 from Toys'r'us for £6 to loop with.
