Jurmala: Majori

Riga-Jurmala = Riga-beach, a great area of beaches and dunes. Majori (Marienbade) is already in the twenties of the 19th century aseaside resort. In the article of Juris Mors (HBG 2002) we read that the area was coming up especially after the opening of the railwayline Riga-Tukums in 1877. On this line also there was a station Majori.
